Windows Experts tired of life on the bleeding edge can now go with a more steady presence as the Dev and Beta channels briefly integrate.

Construct 22581 was discharged by Microsoft last night, bringing toys formerly restricted to the Dev Channel to the Beta Channel along with providing Insiders an opportunity to switch from Dev to Beta without requiring to nuke a PC from orbit.

Both channels generally run in parallel. Microsoft’s engineers utilize the Dev Channel (usually on higher develop numbers) to try out new stuff, while the Beta Channel is better to what will wind up being shipped to end users (although there is no guarantee that whatever in the Beta Channel will find its way into a release).

Omitted from the fun for the time being (at least on the Beta Channel) are Lenovo PCs for Windows Experts in China. The Register asked Microsoft and Lenovo why this was and will update must either respond.

The crossing of the streams is a hint that Microsoft remains in the closing phases of development on whatever will deliver as the Windows 11 update due in the latter part of the year. The most appealing of the updates is the tablet-optimized taskbar, which works in two modes at the bottom of the screen; collapsed or touch-friendly expanded. It is, however, only readily available to that vanishingly small specific niche of tablet-using Windows users rather than those with laptop computers or desktop PCs.

An interesting relocation, considering how desperate Microsoft has been to distance itself from the touch-first fiasco of Windows 8.

Other Dev Channel delights heading to the Beta Channel include a basic cleaning up the user interface, improvements to the Start Menu, and a buffed-up Job Supervisor. Ideally the File Explorer advertisements that were accidentally activated and hurriedly turned off in current weeks won’t likewise make another surprise appearance.

Microsoft alerted the users in the Beta Channel who would choose to stick to the released version of Windows 11 that they have 10 days to roll back and change to Launch Preview. The company did not state for how long Dev Channel fans had prior to the develop numbers change as soon as again, closing the switchover window till next time. ®
