Palo Alto Networks has unveiled a new zero trust security solution designed to protect the operational technology (OT) environments of industrial organizations.
The new solution is named Zero Trust OT Security and is expected to become available in March, along with a new service called Industrial OT Security, which is a key component of the solution.
Industrial OT Security is a cloud-delivered service that provides comprehensive visibility into cyber-physical systems, including industrial control systems (ICS) and IoT devices such as security cameras and HVAC systems.
According to Palo Alto Networks, the service uses an ML-powered OT visibility engine to identify more than 350 OT asset profiles, over 1,000 ICS/OT applications, and more than 650 threat signatures.
The service also provides segmentation and least-privilege access control, continuous risk monitoring, and continuous security inspection capabilities.
The company says the Industrial OT Security service can be easily enabled by any of its more than 61,000 customers without the need to deploy additional sensors.
Palo Alto Networks says its new Zero Trust OT Security solution provides zero trust security for OT assets and networks, remote operations, as well as for 5G assets and networks.

Another goal of the new solution is to simplify operations by enabling organizations to manage everything from a unified platform rather than forcing them to use different, siloed solutions.
Some industrial organizations have already tested the new OT security solution.
“Manufacturing has come into the crosshairs of many recent cyberattacks. Palo Alto Networks Industrial OT Security is a must have to ensure security best practices are in place,” said Jared Mendenhall, director of information security at Impossible Foods. “We look forward to Palo Alto Networks’ dedicated OT Security solution to help us further secure our manufacturing plant, remote operations, and realize our broader Zero Trust vision.”
