Orca Security launches new Data Security Posture Management capabilities
Cloud cybersecurity startup Orca Security Ltd. today announced the launch of new comprehensive Data Security Posture Management capabilities as part of the Orca Cloud Security Platform.
The Portland, Oregon-based company says the new DSPM capabilities build upon itss existing comprehensive approach to cloud security by expanding existing capabilities with enhanced data discovery and management. The new features enable organizations to identify, prioritize and mitigate sensitive data at risk, including shadow data and misplaced data that organizations may not be aware of.
Orca argues that security teams are struggling to keep data secure as enterprises increasingly move sensitive data to the cloud. With sensitive classified data in public clouds expected to nearly double over the next 24 months, developers are increasingly creating shadow data, challenging security teams with weak and incomplete visibility into where sensitive data resides, who has access and which data is at risk.
The new DSPM capabilities continuously detect sensitive data at risk in managed and self-hosted cloud data stores, and in files on virtual machines, containers and cloud storage buckets across multicloud environments. Organizations can use Orca’s new capabilities to take preventive steps to reduce the data attack surface and triage anomalous data-related events across their cloud estates.
Support from Orca includes Amazon Web Services Inc., Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and Alibaba Cloud from a single cloud platform, without requiring additional tools.
“With this latest Data Security Posture Management launch, we have greatly expanded our DSPM offering to provide security teams with full visibility into what data they have, where it resides, the attack vectors that lead to it and any suspicious events and behaviors that need attention,” Avi Shua (pictured, right, with co-founder and Chief Product Officer Gil Geron), co-founder and chief executive of Orca Security, said in a statement. “With this latest addition, Orca is continuing to deliver on our promise to provide the most comprehensive cloud security solution from a single, unified platform.”
Orca says that offering differs from existing DSPM tools that focus solely on data security by taking a more expansive view. The view includes combining data intelligence with other cloud risks, including vulnerabilities, malware, misconfigurations, lateral movement risks, identity and access risks and application programming interface risks.
Orca is a venture capital-backed startup, having raised $632 million to date, including a round of $550 million on a $1.8 billion valuation in October 2021. Investors include Temasek Holding Pte.
