AT&T ranked first among the most impersonated brands in phishing attacks in 2022, according to a new report from cloud and network security company Cloudflare.
PayPal earned the second spot on Cloudflare’s list of the most impersonated brands in phishing attacks, followed by Microsoft, DHL and Facebook (Meta).
In addition, Cloudflare reported finance, technology and telecom brands were the most commonly impersonated industries in phishing attacks in 2022. Cloudflare also noted that nearly 20% of websites are protected by its global network, and its email security offering stopped 2.3 billion unwanted emails from reaching inboxes.
Cloudflare Adds Anti-Phishing Capabilities to Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) Solution
Along with releasing its new report, Cloudflare has announced new Cloudflare One NaaS capabilities “to provide customers the most comprehensive and effective phishing protection available,” the company said.
The new capabilities allow Cloudflare One customers to utilize the Cloudflare Gateway secure web gateway to create zero trust rules to prevent their employees from resolving or browsing “confusable” or lookalike network domains, the company said. That way, Cloudflare One customers can identify and block these domains and protect against phishing attacks.
Cloudflare Lands CISA Contract, Expands Relationship with Microsoft
Previously, Cloudflare in January 2023 secured a $7.2 million contract from the U.S. Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). With the agreement, Cloudflare will provide Registry and Authoritative DNS services to the .gov TLD (Top Level Domain), the company indicated.
In January 2023, Cloudflare announced Microsoft integrations that combine Microsoft Identity solutions and its network security tools. The integrations allow organizations to leverage Cloudflare and Microsoft technologies to protect their applications, end-users, devices and networks from cyberattacks and establish a zero trust infrastructure, the companies stated.
Cloudflare offers network security, zero trust and other security solutions. The company recorded $975.2 million in total revenue in 2022, which represented a 49% year-over-year increase. It also offers a partner program for MSSPs, MSPs and other technology providers.
